Mixing It Up

Dragonflies have the most beautiful wings - I love the metallic shimmer when the sunlight touches them...the beauty of nature is incredible and just captured my imagination - as you will see with this tutorial.

1. Cut/emboss one (1) Dragonfly using Vertigo and Die Cutting Machine and using the metal shim plate.

Note: a Metal Shim is recommended to cut intricate Dies using Vertigo.  If using the Grand Calibur Machine, the sandwiches are as follows (stack from bottom to up) for cutting: 1. Spellbinders Base Plate A; 2. Junior Metal Shim; 3. Medium; 4. Die Template (cut ridges down); 5. Either Pink Embossing Plate or Raspberry Spacer Plate (depending on thickness of sandwich). Do NOT use white cutting plate with the Junior Metal Shim.

For embossing the Vertigo, stack from bottom up in the following order: 1. Spellbinders Base Plate A; 2. Medium Inside Die Template (cut ridges up); 3. Rubber Mat*; 4. Pink Embossing Plate

2. Cut one (1) Dragonfly using Vertigo and Die Cutting Machine - no not emboss or use metal shim so this will cut through outline only.

3. Layer filigree layer onto the Dragonfly base and apply Creative Medium using a palette knife.

4. Carefully remove and allow both layers to dry completely.

5. Place Dragonfly base layer onto the Craft Mat and spray using Fireworks! in Grape Jelly.  Allow to dry, repeat if deeper color is desired.

6. Spray Filigree layer of the Dragon fly using the Shimmer Spritz in Silver.

7. Repeat using Shimmer Spritz Pewter and allow to dry.

8. Cut/Emboss Labels Forty from purple cardstock.

9. Before removing from the die, stamp images randomly onto cardstock.

10. Remove from the die.

11. Adhere Filigree layer to the base of the dragonfly.

12. Fold/score a piece of  yellow cardstock 4-1/2˝ x 12" in half.

13. Cut/emboss yellow cardstock using Labels Forty, keeping fold line inside the fold to create the cardbase.

14. Cut /emboss one(1) Labels Forty Decorative Accents using mauve patterned paper.

15. Cut /emboss one(1) Labels Forty Decorative Accents using purple cardstock.

16. Cut /emboss one(1) Classic Oval using white cardstock.

17. Using the die as a stencil, color around the inside of the die using Memento Bamboo Leaves with a Sponge Dauber.

18. Assemble the layers using foam tape.

19. Adhere the dragonfly to the oval using liquid glue.

20. Adhere twine and flowers using liquid glue.

21. Finish card by adhering bling to the dragonfly body.
